"What's the politically correct way to refer to my gay and lesbian friends' beloveds?"

I want to be politically correct and use the right terminology when referring to the beloveds of my gay and lesbian friends. Any advice?

Listen to your friends as they introduce this important person. What words do they use to characterize their relationship? Is it boyfriend/girlfriend, partner/spouse, or husband/wife? Then, when it comes your turn to introduce one or both of them, use that same language.

Avoid improvising. There are no bonus points for creativity. If you’re not sure of their preferred way of referring to each other, then ask them. After all, these are your friends! “How do the two of you like to be introduced?” should do the trick.
